Dirt Late Model Racing at Shawano Speedway | A Personal Blog Post

What? She photographs race cars too? Yup! In fact I’m fairly certain I took my first photo of a race car before I ever too my first wedding photo. To be honest, I don’t photograph them often, but I do enjoy the challenge when I do. It’s quite a bit different than photographing weddings or portraits, and the subject matter is moving much faster than I’m used to. Despite the challenge of the speed of the cars there are also some things that are easier when photographing race cars when compared to people. You don’t have to worry about hair out of place or closed eyes with the race cars.

So, you may be wondering how this came to be? Well, my dad (#7B) was actually a race car driver for 30 years. He started racing Grand Nationals at Chilton Speedway, eventually moved to the Sportsman Class at Plymouth Dirt Track Racing, and ended his career racing a Late Model. He raced all over the state and at one point was racing at several tracks out of Wisconsin as well. For many years he raced three nights a week, Friday through Sunday, at Langlade County Speedway in Antigo, WI, Shawano Speedway in Shawano, WI, and Outagamie Speedway in Seymour, WI. At the end of his racing career he mainly ran at Plymouth Dirt Track Racing as well as traveling around the state to various Dirt Kings Specials.

But, wait! Did you know that my husband, Joe (#20) races as well? Yup! He started racing go karts, and eventually had the opportunity to work on and race a sports mod. Eventually he moved up to a Late Model as well.

Not only did my dad and husband race, but I have taken Senior Photos for several racers and I have photographed many weddings for local racers. I wish I had more photos of their cars, but below you’ll find one of our Kristin Reuter Photography Grooms, Jason Jach (#7X).
