Canon FINALLY Releases the Specs and the Official Release Date of Their New Mirrorless Cameras

I don’t know about y’all, but I have been ever so impatiently waiting for the release of a professional mirrorless camera from Canon. Sony has been dominating the market for years and I’ve thought about jumping ship from Canon to Sony SO MANY times, but when you’ve been shooting on a system like Canon as long as I have you accumulate a pretty impressive glass, aka lens, collection. Plus, I’m pretty damn obsessed with their transceiver functionality in their 600 series Speedlites.

We’ve been teased over the last few years with the release of their original mirrorless models and then utterly disappointed with the lack of key functions and features needed to use this camera professionally.

Canon has heard us and did not disappoint with the release of their Canon EOS R5 and Canon EOS R6.

Canon EOS R5- Expected release date: July 30th, 2020
Pre-Order here: https://amzn.to/3iSy4vR

So the Canon EOS R5, which is the camera I will be upgrading from my 5d mark iv to, has every feature I wanted and more. Boy, so much more. This model is geared to the professional photographer.

  • 45 Megapixel Full-frame CMOS Sensor

  • 12-20 fps

  • ISO range of 100-51200 which can be expanded to 102400. SAY WHAT!?!

  • Nearly 100% AF covering…that’s over 1000 AF areas! My jaw is still on the floor at this point. AMAZING

  • Not only does it offer facial and eye tracking, but it also offers animal tracking which is great for the furtographers!

  • 8k RAW video which allows you to grab 35 megapixel stills…yeah you read that correctly.

  • DUAL CARD SLOTS!!!! I’m literally doing cartwheels over here about this one!

  • IN-BODY Image Stabilization up to 8 stops this means smooth handheld video. Canon sure knows how to make me excited. <3

  • The shutter is rated at approximately 500,00 cycles

  • And many more features, but these were a few of my favorites.

Now some of you might take a look at the price and be the most excited. Keep in mind that this camera is rated to last over twice as long as the Canon EOS 5d mark iv for example. When the 5d mark iv was released I paid $3499 for the body only. The 5d mark iv is only rated for 150,000 shutter actuations. So, actually the new Canon EOS R5 will last you over THREE times as long as the 5d mark iv, which to me is spectacular.

The amazing Sal Cincotta got his hands on the new Canon EOS R5 and I’ve linked his video review below if you want more details and to see it in action:
